X2 Mini Mill Mods

I wanted to move the belt drive from my old mill to my new CNC mini-mill. Well, the spindle nut didn't want to come off, which didn't make sense because I didn't have any problems putting it on six months earlier. I went looking for pictures and advice on the Internet and had trouble finding any. So I wrote this article. My goal is to:

First I bought mini lathe form Homier online store. It was one of many variation of Sieg 7x12 machines. Few years later I got Mini Mill from Harbor Freight - a variation of Sieg X2 mill. These two machines are very good when tuned well. I was able to achieve the precision of 0.001inch what is enough for my needs.

My mini-mill Y-axis alignment required the bottom of the column to be pulled in toward the base, so the 3/8" outside bolts were tightened first, as evenly as possible to avoid any twist. Then the inside 7/16" bolts were screwed in just tight enough to eliminate any flex.

When changing mill-bits, it is necessary to loosen a draw-bar retention bolt that goes down the center of the spindle. In the standard X2 mill, the operator must hand insert the SPINDLE LOCK PIN pin into the mill. The SPINDLE LOCK PIN keeps the spindle from turning while you are loosening/tightening the tool retention bolt.
